The MMG Qatar Annual General Assembly (AGA) was held last 17th of September 2021. Education and Training Committee chair, Mr. Jeacim Adaya was the emcee of the event.  Board Member Dr. Clara Cristobal opened the assembly with a lively welcome address, as she highlighted that this was the second annual general assembly conducted virtually because of the pandemic. She challenged everyone to be optimistic and grateful that despite the challenges the cooperative is still on the right track. She also encouraged everyone to patronize the businesses of MMG Qatar since we are part-owners of these businesses. The AGA was called to order by MMG Qatar Chairman, Mr. Robert Lepon. He declared that this meeting is a point of transition where an election will be held for half of the board members, before the other half passes the torch in another election in March 2022.

 

The AGA main agenda started off with Board member, Ms. Jennifer Pintor presenting the minutes of the special general assembly (SGA) meeting last 21st of May 2021 which included updates from the CEO, cooperative committee member reports, CBU completers and raffle winners. 

 

MMG Qatar CEO Mr. Rommel Huenda gave the updates and achievements of the cooperative to date, namely the staffing of Al Jazeera first aid clinic with nurses, a dental laboratory in OMC that is operational and on 8th of August 2021, we were awarded with a certificate of compliance from the Cooperative Developmental Authority (CDA). Another good news is the transfer of location of the MMG office at the second floor of the Sport Accelerator Building in Al Waab.  All members are encouraged to visit the office. 

 

Board Member Ms. Jennifer Pintor the updated us that from 2nd January until 11th of September 2021, there were 20 board meetings held. The following resolutions were made during these meetings:

  1. PHP 10 million loan from MMG Palawan to fund the dental laboratory at OMC, 
  2. Board Member Dr. Dolores Laeras was made shareholder representative of OMC
  3. Approval of fund repatriation through BPI FSB in the Philippines
  4. Establishment of risk committee
  5. Approval of MANCO executive committee
  6. MMG Qatar cooperative owns MANCO by 100%

 

CEO Rommel Huenda then presented the 2020 Audited Financial Statements which can be accessed and download on the MMG Qatar website. As of 31st December 2020, the assets of MMG Qatar increased by PHP 6.6 million, liabilities increased by PHP 1.2 million and equity increased by PHP 5.3 million. Net income loss decreased by PHP 4.1 million compared to 2019.

 

Updates were given for each of the MMG Qatar Business. Board Member Dr. Dolores Laderas gave updates on Ocean Medical Center (OMC). The new dental laboratory is operational, which decreased payments to external laboratories by QR 77,750, and with this, hopefully 7 dental clinics will sign up with OMC in the future. Rapid antigen test is now available at OMC. There was a total of 5,807 patient visits in OMC in 2020, with an average visit of 484 patients per month including the lockdown months. As of August 2021, there were a total of 7,511 patient visits. From June to August 2021, revenues increased by QAR 1.3 million. OMC expects arrival of specialized doctors, including Dr. Allan for Dermatology, Dr. Frances for Orthodontics and Dr. Troy for Pediatrics. Several special promotions are ongoing for the dental, dermatology and ENT clinics.

 

As for MMG Mandirigma, Coach RC gave updates.  New members increased from 9 to 92 from May-June 2021 despite closure during the second wave of the pandemic. An average of 3-4 members/day were attending the gym. To date, there are 3,000 student visits. Sales for the month of August 2021 amounted to QR 169,745, with daily average sales of QR 4,000-5,600. Product sales amounted to QR 19,475 and QR 150,270 for gym package sales. Kape Mandirigma is soon to open, with a 25-30 customer capacity, which is targeted to finish and open in October this year. The café’s menu was also presented, highlighting the following best seller drinks including, Matcha, Peanut butter protein coffee best seller, watermelon mojito and grape mojito. MMG Mandirigma members can avail of discounts with several MMG Mandirigma brand partners, including Boracay Restaurant, Kabayan Brewers, Kuya Mac’s FizzX, Bench and Clay Oven. For MMG Qatar cooperative members, MMG Mandirigma gym annual membership is QR 50, with a 1-month free unlimited class, unlimited use of BMI machine and 10% discount on all merchandise. Available merchandise at the counter was showcased alongside with merchandise samples that will be available soon. MMG Mandirigma is also looking forward to welcoming investors for franchising the business. 

 

Board Member Ms. Jennifer Pintor discussed the latest report on capital build-up (CBU). As of 31st of August 2021, there were 227 (54%) fully paid members, with 61 (15%) members who were not yet due and 129 (31%) members who were overdue. Total CBU collected as of 31st of August 2021 was PHP 59,702,875, 75% of which is now invested in three companies in Qatar (OMC, MMG Mandirigma and MANCO) and in the Philippine Federation.

 

CEO Mr. Rommel Huenda showed the cooperative’s projection and goals in the next 5 years, namely:

  1. Continuing capital build up by enhancing collection process for PHP 17.8 million past due CBU and enhancing membership drive.
  2. Setting up health care facilities in the Philippines by obtaining or generating capital or partnering with other cooperative hospitals and by acquiring pharmacy with grocery and other opportunities
  3. Expanding to UAE by laying the groundwork and by finding the right business partners.
  4. Establishing a medical laboratory for OMC to obtain or generate capital which will be important for doctors to maximize revenues.
  5. Franchising and/or expanding MMG Mandirigma Gym with initial discussions with interested partners and listing in Qatar SMC Stock Market.
  6. Managing additional clinics by completing feasibility study and agreeing with partners and expanding portfolio of managed first-aid clinics.

 

During the elections, 100% of the members approved the voting rules and guidelines, 100% approved the 2020 Audited Financial Statements as presented and 100% approved the 5-year business plan and budget.  98.3% (116 votes) of the members voted for Cheryl Concepcion Garcia as Audit Committee Member. Julius Benemele Labastida and Kristina Antonia Olase Flores were elected as Election Committee members with 55 (25.7%) votes and 54 (25.2%)votes respectively. Board members were also elected as follows: Daisy Magadia Garduce with 105 (13.4%) votes, Clara Amar Cristobal with 74 (12.3%) votes, Rommel Duave Yrac with 95 (12%) votes, Daisy Garcia Tingzon with 94 (11.9%) votes, Ma. Theodora Tabora Adaya with 90 (11.4%) votes, Nilo Carlo Carlos Martinez with 88 (11.1%), Ellen Bacong Labastida with 84 (10.6%) votes and Derrick Fernandez Tusi with 75 (9.5%) votes.

 

The AGA concluded with the membership committee conducting a raffle draw for those members who participated in the election nominations and also for those members who attended the AGA. The AGA raffle draw winners are as follows:
